Discover Whinstone Lee Tor

One of my favourite viewpoints in the Peak District is from Whinstone Lee Tor and it’s quite easy to get to if you do not like a steep climb. Park in the lay-by on the A57 near Cutthroat Bridge and cross the road. A moorland track with a gentle slope will bring you to the viewpoint in about 20 minutes. It’s a wonderful view as you can see from the photo which was taken on an unusually warm day in early March. Watch out for a ring ouzel here if it is the right time of year. I have seen one up here in May before.

If you follow the footpath north and do not climb up on to Derwent Edge you can descend to the reservoir after about a kilometre. Turn left towards the woodland above Ladybower.

You pass a National Trust barn on the descent which is a great place to stop and have a coffee and enjoy the view.

After reaching the reservoir it is a gentle walk back through the trees to the bridge carrying Snake Pass.
